Software required to stream Flash

 

Purpose:

The purpose of this article is to provide a list of applications that can be used with our flash streaming service. It will also display the system requirements that will be needed in order for them to be used on a computer. 

 


**Adobe Media Encoder** (Recommended)

To produce a Live Flash Stream with Adobe Media Encoder, you must first download and install Adobe's Flash Media Encoder, available here: Download Adobe Media Encoder Proceed to download the latest version, at the time of writing, that is V3.2.

Windows System Requirements

  • 933MHz Intel®Pentium®3 (or compatible) or faster processor
  • For H.264 and AAC support: 1.67GHz Intel Core™2 Duo processor required (3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo recommended)
  • For multiple output streams: 3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of RAM required (quad- or 8-core machine with 3GB of RAM recommended)
  • Microsoft®Windows®XP with Service Pack 2 or 3;Windows Vista®Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise;Windows Server®2003 (32-bit) Web Edition;or Windows 7
  • 256MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
  • 40MB of available hard-disk space (excludes archived FLV and F4V files)
  • 1024x768 screen resolution with 32-bit video card
  • Microsoft DirectShow compatible video capture device
  • Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime version 9.0c
  • For H.264 and AAC support: Adobe®Flash®Media Live Encoder 2.5 software required

To install the Encoder, simply double click on the setup file you downloaded, and follow the Install Wizard prompts.

 

Mac OS X System Requirements

  • 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor
  • Mac OS X v10.5.6
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 50MB of available hard-disk space (excludes archived FLV and F4V files)
  • 1024x768 screen resolution
  • QuickTime compatible audio/video capture devices
  • QuickTime 7 software or later

To stream audio and video to Flash Player, you also will need one of the following: Flash Media Server 2.0.4 or later (download the latest version);for H.264 support: Flash Media Server 3 or later is required or Flash Video Streaming Service.

To view live audio and video feeds being streamed from Adobe Media Server or FVSS, you also will need Flash Player 8 or later. For H.264 support: Flash Player 9 Update 3 or later required.

**Wirecast** (Recommended)

This software requires a purchase license. For more information, please go to the WireCast Home page.

Windows System Requirements

  • Windows 7 processor: 2.3 GHz dual core 32- or 64-bit, 2 GB RAM, or:
  • Windows Vista processor: 2.3 GHz dual core 32-bit (x86), 2 GB RAM, or:
  • Windows XP, SP2 processor: 2.1 GHz 32-bit (x86), 1 GB RAM
  • QuickTime 7.5
  • 200 MB hard drive (for install)
  • Hard drive space for recording to disk
  • 256 MB PCI-Express graphics card with 3D acceleration (GeForce or Radeon class card recommended)
  • Microsoft®DirectX 9.0c
  • Sufficient upload speed (500k for low quality, 1.0 MB up for good and 2.0 MB for HD)

*Note: Windows 8 is not supported at this time.

 

Mac OS X System Requirements

  • Mac OS X 10.6 or later, including Mountain Lion
  • Intel Based Mac
  • Minimum 2GB RAM
  • QuickTime 7 or higher
  • 200 MB hard drive(for install)
  • Hard drive space for recording to disk
  • A Quartz Extreme capable graphics card
  • QTSS/DSS 4.1.3 or later is needed for automatic "announce"unicasting
  • A supported GPU is required for Core Image and GPU video compression acceleration
  • Flash streaming on Mac requires Intel based processor
  • Sufficient upload speed (500k for low quality, 1.0 MB up for good and 2.0 MB for HD)

Note: There is a memory leak in Intel HD Graphics 4000 drivers on Mac OSX 10.8.2. This affects newer Mac Minis, MacBook Airs and 13 inch MacBooks that contain the Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics card and no secondary graphics card. Upgrading to OSX 10.8.3 resolves this issue.

**Open Broadcaster Software** BETA (Not recommended)

Open Broadcaster Software is free and open source software for recording and live streaming. Both 32 and 64 bit versions are available and it's freeto download.
